Your data

What Active Living reads

Three things, and only these three:

  • Steps
  • Distance walked or run
  • Active calories burned

They come from Apple Health on iPhone, or Health Connect on Android — the health stores already built into your phone.

What it never does

It also does not:

  • track your location, or run any kind of background tracker
  • read anything beyond the three types above — not heart rate, sleep, weight, blood pressure or medical records
  • read your activity while you are not using the app

Why it asks for all three

Active Living shows three rings — steps, distance and energy. Android requires an app to request every type it uses up front, so all three appear on the permission screen together.

You can allow fewer, and everything you allow will still work. Anything you decline simply shows as zero.

Where your steps go

Your daily totals are sent to The Ismaili's servers so that your progress carries across devices, and so challenges and leaderboards can work. Challenge leaderboards show your name and your total to other people taking part in that challenge — that is the point of a challenge, and it applies only to challenges you choose to join.

Turning access off

On iPhone: open Health, tap your profile picture, then Apps and Services, then The Ismaili, and turn the switches off.

On Android: open Health Connect, tap App permissions, then The Ismaili, and turn the permissions off.

Either way, Active Living stops reading new data immediately. Nothing else in The Ismaili app is affected.

Deleting what has already been sent

If you want the activity data already held on our servers removed, ask through the support form and say that you want your Active Living data deleted.
