iPhone and Apple Watch

Your iPhone counts steps using hardware built into the phone, and writes them to Apple Health automatically. You do not need to install anything, and you do not need a watch.

Set it up

  1. Open The Ismaili app and go to Active Living.
  2. Tap Get Started, then Connect Health.
  3. Apple Health asks what you want to share. Turn on Steps, Distance and Active Energy.
  4. Tap Allow.

Your steps should appear within a moment. If they do not, carry your phone for a few minutes and pull down to refresh.

If you have an Apple Watch

Nothing extra to do. Your watch writes activity to Apple Health on the iPhone it is paired with, and we read it from there.

If your watch data looks stale, open the Watch app on your iPhone to check the two are still paired and syncing.

The one thing worth understanding

Checking what you actually allowed

  1. Open the Health app.
  2. Tap your profile picture, top right.
  3. Tap Apps and Services.
  4. Tap The Ismaili.
  5. Make sure Steps, Distance and Active Energy are all turned on.

Health, then your profile picture, then Apps and Services.

If The Ismaili is not listed at all, the app has never asked. Go back to Active Living and tap Connect Health again.

Turning access off

Same screen as above — turn the three switches off. Active Living stops working, and nothing else in the app changes.

It still shows zero
